Estimate

In the case of a work, the recommended guiding price, i.e. the approximate price, is the accepted market price for that author’s works. This is the interval at which price similar works by the artist have been sold and are being sold, or the price at which they could be appraised in comparison with the works of other similar authors. All recommended guiding prices are recommendations and are set by art experts, relying on experience from the last 20 years in the art market. The approximate price is determined by art experts and may be viewed as the recommended guiding price when making offers.

How bidding works?

If you are the initial bidder, mark the amount of your opening bid in the field. Use the estimated recommended price as your guide. An accepted offer must at least meet the reserve price*, which the system will notify you of immediately. If it is below the reserve price, the system will give you the opportunity to raise your bid. Following an accepted opening bid, bidding will continue on the basis of the following increments: from EUR 25 to EUR 500 – at increments of EUR 25 from EUR 500 to EUR 1000 – at increments of EUR 50 EUR 1000 and above – at increments of EUR 100 The winner of the auction is the bidder whose offer is the highest at the end of the auction. The bidder may also outbid themselves. The number of bids is not limited. *the reserve price is the minimum possible sale price for the work. The reserve price may either be below the estimated sale price, or also fall within the interval of the recommended estimated sales price.

About the author

Olev Soans graduated from Estonia’s National Institute of Art in 1951; later he worked there as a lecturer, professor and professor emeritus. In 1975, he defended his pedagogical candidate thesis at the University of Tartu. In his graphic works, Soans has magnificently captured Estonia’s cultural monuments and history and brought several innovations to Estonia’s design graphics, including introducing electrographic screen printing. He did both freehand and book art graphics as well as poster art. However, the most known of his works are infographic land or picture maps. Fantasy and imagery were not important for Soans, these were not enough. Soans needed more than an artist’s self-expression, so he started relying on facts when creating cultural history maps, trying to convey the facts in as much detail as possible and by using different techniques.
